 Most lip pigments contain titanium dioxide in powder form. This gives the tattoo a brighter base and helps make the colour stand out more. When hit with a laser, this metal turns to its original dark grey colour. This makes the affected areas turn darker after laser treatment. In subsequent sessions, a physician can remove the dark color.
